They Call It Beantown

Alternately, "Love that Dirty Water".

Thanks, Ogged. We are making a list at my office of words and phrases we can do without. "Fleshing out an idea" is the winner so far.

Who wants to come? What day is good for everyone?

Next week I personally can do any evening except Wednesday, any time after 5:30, or weekend after noon.
Any suggestions on a place? Maybe somewhere with music but not loud music? Please speak up. It will be unutterably sad if this comment dies here alone.

According to my son, Bostonians are notoriously unfriendly. Perhaps the meetup should be held somewhere else, so that the Unfogged Brahmans can loosen up a little without fear of embarassment.

Don't you mean "brahmin?"

Here are some (random) suggestions for Boston places:
The Burren (in Davis Square)
or the Burren's uglier (trashier) little brother, Sligo
The Sevens (on Charles St.)
Somewhere in Central? The Enormous Room, or the Middle East? Or the Miracle of Science?
Charlie's Kitchen, in Harvard?

Somewhere else completely?

Miracle of Science is good. Or the Middlesex? (Haven't been there, but Drinking Liberally meets there, so I assume it's group friendly.) I like the sound of The Enormous Room.

Rivergods? I've heard their food is good. Other places?

I was, of course, referring to the "large heat and tick resistant grayish humped breed of cattle".

Rivergods is also a great suggestion.

Can we do this on a night that isn't a weekend? We're much more likely to be able to find a table, at a place that isn't so loud that it kills conversation.

The Burren is a very good choice, as is Sligo.

At what point does it become non-dickish for me to mention that odds are I'll be in DC December 9th and interested in a DC-area meetup?

Cuz I'll totally wait until then.

You should bring the baby! Sally had a lovely evening going out for margaritas with some law school friends of mine when she was about three months old; a buddy walked off with her in the sling and was using her to pick up girls at the bar ("Hi, look at this adorable baby I'm taking care of.") It was great.

I realize, on rereading, that the former comment was ambiguous. I was there too. Sally didn't go out by herself with my law school friends when she was three months old. That would have been bold of her.

If we were to do this on a weekend, I think we'd want to do it in the afternoon. But week nights are fine, except (so far) Tuesday and Wednesday. Let's give people a day or so to overcome their Brahminly reserve and let us know when they can meet.

I'm game!

River Gods is a great place, but it's tiny. Others who know the place - would you really want to be there at an event with more than about five people?

Burren would be good, and it's definitely the most convenient for me. Charlie's Kitchen would work. Rock Bottom downtown is also a decent place for a sizable group, even if it's no longer Brew Moon.

(No schedule conflicts so far next week)

Next Thursday night at the Burren sounds like it then. Approximate start time? If anybody really wants to do this and the night doesn't work for them, let us know, and we'll start over. Brock will be the guy with the baby. I'll be the really old person.

The Burren. -- Ellen and I rode bikes around there several years back (from Ennis to Lisdoonvarna and circuitously back if memory serves) and it was fun times.

BG just read this thread, and she's about to check her e-mail.

I will try very hard to make it. I don't yet know what my schedule is. I will try to rearrange it, if I'm scheduled to work, because I definitely want to go.

Is the Burren the sort of place where I can nurse my drink? Because I don't want to spend too much money.

Hey all, I will definitely be there. 7PM at the Burren in Davis Square right? I'll be wearing a red jacket or, if it's raining, a yellow slicker. Would someone who's planning to go e-mail me a cell phone number so that I can call if I'm running late?
