Re: Portland Minimeetup

At what attendance threshold does a minimeetup become a full-fledged meetup?

Oh, I was making a crack about Emerson's height. If McQueen is 5'9" or over, then it's a full-sized meetup.

It's not a matter of size, Landers -- just the fact of its being held in Portland makes it diminutive regardless of how many people show.

Ouch.

Portland, the little town that could.

Portland is one of the most beautiful cities I've visited in the US.

2 is very funny.

Portland is fantastic.

We should all go to the Portland meetup.

Indeed, I live there (here, rather). But, Clown was correct in that Portland does have a reputation for being provincial. A small big city, as it where.

Nope. Looks like it's a minimeetup. The place is Doug Fir Lounge -- so Portland, n'est-ce pas? -- and the act is a Pogues tribute band called KMRIA ("Kiss My Royal Irish Arse," from Joyce's "Ulysses" via the Pogues' "Transmetropolitan;" a clever choice, given that that band takes its name from "pogue mahone," Irish for "kiss my ass"). Among the members are current and ex-Decemberists including Emerson fils.

The show starts at 9. Start time for the (mini)meetup is yet to be determined. Brock, if you make it out, we promise not to miss you.

Mini-me-etup in Texas, January 7th.

I think of it as a more exclusive meetup with less riffraff. Roamsedge is welcome of course, being an exclusive sort.

The KMRIA show will be a drunken zoo, so a conversational meetup beforehand or on a different day seems like a good idea. I'm in PDX now and will be in touch with Jesus sometime today.

If it's just him and me it's the executive meetup, and you'll all be hearing abou some changes we've decided on.

Indeed. How are you getting around, JE? Palanquin?

I'll be travelling by bus. I'll be staying at ~50th SE Powell but spending a lot of time around PSU where my son lives.

Mini-me-etup in Texas, January 7th.

Cool. In Austin?

And hey, LB, how come us Texas 'Shafters don't rate a post for our impending meet up??

LB is incapacitated, so I'll respond in her stead.

a. Probably because you didn't ask her to post.

b. Because of Tom DeLay's very existence.

OK, the Portland executive meetup of the Unfoggetariat will take place at Produce Row, 204 SW Oak, at 7:00 Fri Dec 15 and will adjourn sometime thereafter to the Doug Fir Lounge, 8:30 E Burnside. Lurkers and Roamsedge are welcome, though at this point it's just me and Jesus. Apparently Unfogged has as yet not had much success in the sophisticated Portland market.

KMRIA (Pogues cover band featuring off-duty Decemberists) will play about 10:30-11:00. Some other band of unknown nature will open at about 9:30. Best chances of the promised audience with an actual Decemberist will be before the show.

I believe 22 is a situation where "wangle" should be used instead of "wrangle".
