George Bush: the new face of Wahhabism. I can't wait to see how this plays out in the Middle East.

It's fun to imagine what the rightosphere would make of a Bush conversion. Seriously, I bet Hugh Hewitt would be prostrating toward Mecca within the hour. "This is a solid religious doctrine-- I give it a B+...for Bismillah!"

7 reminds me of this, specifically this paragraph:

In perhaps the oddest development, the Jews For Jesus organization announced Monday that it has split into three separate groups: Jews Still For Jesus, Jews For Allah, and Jews For Just Being Jews Again

Well, I was hemmed in by the famous shit sandwich post. Before I blaspheme any more, I'm headed home for bed. Goodnight, and good luck.

I have no idea what Webb's positions on the issues are, but I've been waiting for a Democrat who could talk like that since about 1968.

Do you disagree, or can't you believe it? I only read excerpts, but he said things right.

I can't believe it.

I hadn't watched, because I didn't know what time it would start & wasn't going to watch Bush's. The text looks damn good though.

There is no God but Nancy Pelosi, and Jim Webb is her prophet.

Seriously, perfect pitch.

Webb is awesome.

I read it so as not to be influenced by other cues. Pretty good, I think. The T.R. reference re class divide has been what I've been thinking for some time now.

I definitely got a "Be reasonable or we'll be reasonable for you" feel.

He had the whole righteous wrath thing working for him.

"Be reasonable or we'll be reasonable for you"

Yes, I loved that part. It made me a bit scared, though.

Can we get Webb out in front a lot? That was great -- the unambigious take on the war, the TR comparison, the direct mention of inequality. Excellent.

Stupid aesthetics comment: Webb isn't a great orator, but what he said worked very well in his folksy accent. Should use him more in front of cameras.

Second stupid aesthetics comment: Webb needs a bit more practice reading off a teleprompter.

This is all making me so much less terrified. I remember it was 2003 or 2004 that the SOTU response was given by a guy who nobody had ever heard of who had seemingly never given a speech before, apparently because he was the most prominent Asian-American in the DLC. I literally yelled at the TV, "We need to take this stuff seriously, you complacent douchebags! Enough fooling around!" (well, I yelled something)

Yeah, after Locke's response, I was pretty convinced that the Democrats would be better off just not giving a televised response.
