Re: Dark Hearts

Oh, but Chirac is the biggest stylistic comedown. Let us focus on the truly important.

Didn't the Right get its undies in a wad over Che being represented by such a hot actor in Motorcycle Diaries? And yet, the real thing—even hotter.

I like the picture of Bush taking some oath, in front of a sign saying "Panic". Why didn't they?

But volumes are written in the history of Hitler's mustache.

Most evil-looking throughout their lives: Hitler, Putin, and Gandhi.

Hitler and Putin are close, but I think Putin has to win this game.

Winston Churchill was the most evidently evil of the children. Also: The child Yasser Arafat - supercute!

I think I've seen pictures before, but I'd forgotten how handsome Bush used to be. Wow. How could such an attractive man become such an awful president?

I think Putin's kind of cute, although if you left him Home Alone he'd get into the aftershave in five minutes.

Dubya looks pretty much like something out of American Psycho through most of the sequence. And Stalin at any stage of his life looks like he'd just as soon skin your corpse as shake your hand.

I'm surprised that Hitler doesn't look more evil (apart from, you know, being Hitler). Young Gandhi looks mostly like an MIT nerd.

I am not surprised. There is something of the decadent spoiled youth in Putin.

I love how the comments are all about King Fahd, whether various commenters are jealous of King Fahd, etc.

Both pictures of Putin with (his, presumably) baby are hilarious. The same cardboard expression. Poor woman, poor child.

My fav are the pictures where Blair and Bush look totally baked. Blair with that hat looks like he could be in some 70s prog rock group.

Come on, Stalin looks positive diabolical at every point.

Interesting that Stalin and Saddam Hussein were the only true hard gangster types among that bunch -- in their early years they killed people with their own hands doing criminal stuff, etc. I think it sort of shows.

The first Stalin picture looks more like an artist's representation than a photograph, so I discount it a bit, and he looks pretty normal in the second one; that's just your swarthy-hatred talking.

re: 31

Blair was the singer in some college rock band at the time.

Mandela looks quite a tough physically imposing guy -- as you'd expect from the leader of Umkhonto we Sizwe -- in contrast to his post prison image of a fairly frail elder saintly elder statesman. Although he still comes over as powerful guy to this day.

Mao was a military leader from pretty early on, so I suspect he did his share of killing by his own hand.

35 is right about Mandela.
