Re: Though my girl comes from down in Jordan, we were up in Galilee

It appears, however, that one must travel to Pakistan to purchase said whisky.

I also don't understand what you mean about the poetry.

Mmm, I can already taste the terroir.

Oh, that there would be all these images of drunkenness or whatever, which would seem totally pedestrian when translated (ie into another cultural context), because there was no religious/mystical resonance about it.

Ah, okay. The phrasing in the post was a little confusing.

I have shuffle on, and I heard this hauntingly beautiful voice, thought "what the hell *is* this? It's amazing" then found out it was the Bee Gees, "(Our Love) Don't throw it all away."

Ogged, don't even bother. I'm shaming myself plenty.

That won't happen if you get ribbons for your elliptical trainer.

I made a guess abotu waht it meant, and it was not what ben w-lfs-n explained.

Which explanation is correct? The one you read in the comments, or the one you read in the post?

I like the explanation at the end:

Single malt whisky is made with malted barley and many drinkers say it is far superior to blended whisky.
That's good, gets everyone on the same page.

I would be a bit careful about this stuff. I once drank something that described itself as locally made Port in Pakistan, and there is not world enough or time to describe how nasty it was. OTOH Murree beer was OK back in the day, so who knows.

Sorry, Lyle:

You say you're not from Darra
Man as if I couldn't tell
You think you pull your shalwar on right
And wear your gun so well
So pardon me my laughter
'Cause I sure do understand
Even Mohammed (PBUH) got excited
When he saw the promised land

Chorus:
That's right you're not from Darra
That's right you're not from Darra
That's right you're not from Darra
But Darra wants you anyway
(Repeat chorus)

See I was born and raised in Darra
And it means so much to me
Though my girl comes from down near Multan
We were up in Rawalpindi
And as we were driving up the highway
She asked me baby what's so great
How come you're always going on
About your border state
I said
(Chorus)
(Repeat chorus)

Oh the road it looked so lovely
As she stood there on the side
And she grew smaller in my mirror
As I watched her wave goodbye
Those boys from old Lahore
They sure enough could sing
But when they came on up to Darra
We all showed them how to swing
Now Daud's on the radio
And old Aziz on sitar
And Uncle Ishtaq's home with Miah
Hiding in her loving arms
(Chorus)
(Repeat Chorus)

They're quaint over in that Quetta
Up in Peshawar they're fair
But those old folks in Karachi
They don't even know you're there
But at a feast hall up in Darra
That's the finest place to be
The women they all look beautiful
And the men will buy your beer for free
And they'll say
(Chorus)

So won't you let me help you Saheeb
Just pull your gun down the way I do
And buy your robe just a little longer
And next time somebody laughs at you
You just tell 'em you're not from Darra
(Chorus)
(Repeat chorus and fade)

12 is seemingly an Unfogged original. At least it's an internet scoop, by my Googling.

Whisky is only a kind of flavoured vodka anyway.

Our product will match the best Scotch whiskies in the world ...

Good stuff. As long as any ethanol congener inclusions are kept to a minimum, should be fine. Compare: grappa.

Li pensate tiro i vostri caricamenti del sistema sulla destra
E porti così bene il vostro cappello
Così pardon me il mio laughter
'la causa I sicuro capisce
Anche Moses ha ottenuto eccitato
Quando ha visto la terra promessa

Ma il Texas li desidera comunque
Così non voi lascilo aiutarlo mister
Tiro giusto il vostro cappello giù il senso
E compri i vostri pantaloni appena un piccolo più lungamente
E la volta prossima qualcuno li ride
Dite appena 'al em che non provenite dal Texas
Quella è destra che non provenite dal Texas

15-18 I figured B-Wo was punning on the Lyle Lovett title, so why not go all the way? It was better than failing, in reference to 3, to say something clever about Pakistan's role in the war on terroir.

Does 18 take the same melody as LL's version?

18 is just a Babelfish Lovett. The site I went to had a babelfish link for some reason.

The 12 year old Murree whiskey tastes like aftershave and cost me $7 a "peg" (basically, a shot) at the Karachi Marriott. Verdict: not worth it.
