Re: Watery Goodness

I would say that Phelps has four very strong strokes and he sometimes utilizes different strategies in the IM.

That's no fun at all, will.

(And his breastroke had been relatively weak, no?)

Phelps can split 1:13 long course meters in breast. That may be relatively weak compared to his other strokes, but it is still damn fast.

The other important question for a 400IMer is how much energy does it take for him to go 1:13. It doesnt help to go 1:12 if that shoots your wad.

What I'm getting at is that Phelps breast was his weak leg and Czeh is an excellent breaststroker, but at the Worlds, Phelps was right with him in the breast, which is amazing--so I agree with you that he's amazing in all the strokes, but that hasn't always been the case, at least not to this degree.

And it was cool that he won the race on the turn.

Quite a story. We're about due for a "crazy coach" thread, but I was expecting basketball, any minute now.

Ogged:
If you are a fast flyer and backstroker, but you hold back a bit, then you are more rested for breaststroke. If you are a weaker flyer and backstroker, but push yourself hard to keep up, you will be more tired in breast.

Well, this isn't so much crazy coach, but I do note with interest the different wordings.

NYT: "Pokey Chatman, who coached the Louisiana State University women's basketball team to the Final Four the past three years, resigned over suspected inappropriate conduct involving her and a former player, an L.S.U. official said last night. The exact nature and timing of the suspected misconduct remains unknown, but it did not involve striking a player, said the official, who was speaking on the condition of anonymity because it involved a personnel matter."

ESPN: "Pokey Chatman resigned as the head women's basketball coach at Louisiana State on Wednesday after the university became aware of an alleged inappropriate sexual relationship between Chatman and a former player on Chatman's team, sources told The university, the sources said, learned of the relationship from an employee within the basketball program. It was unclear when the alleged improper conduct took place, but when asked if it had occurred while the player was a member of a team coached by Chatman, a university source said, 'that's my understanding.'
