Too familiar. I liked things better when I had only a vague idea as to what sort of people were making the music or were listening to it.

In the past -- way back in the mid-'90s, say -- artists had only occasional contact with their fans. If a musician was feeling friendly, he might greet a few audience members at the bar after a show.

These two sentences strike me as much stupider than the rest of the piece, but perhaps that's because I remember bands begging for someone's couch to crash on.

Another useful rule he imparts to me: Post in the morning, when you're no longer drunk.

that article was great - my favorite part was how coulton planned his touring schedule around results of internet polls of who'd come out in the most numbers in what town. neat.
