Re: Boston Meetup Thread

1

Hey all, Tuesdays I'm at the Longwood medical area until 7:15 or 7:25 so that might not be the greatest, but I don't have to be at work until late in the morning on Wednesday. If other people are up for a late-ish night, I'm game.

Mondays are probably not great for me, since I need to be at work on Tuesdays at either 7 or 7:30.

Wait... did I miss something over the weekend? Why are we planning a meetup?

will is also coming in a couple of weeks.

Plus there had been plans in the works for a while. We might even have a cookout.

Plans have been in the works for a while? A cookout?? I've apparantly not been reading closely enough. Damned job keeps distracting me.

Are Sifu and will going to be here at the same time, or do have to collectively decide which of the two we, as a group, would prefer to meet?

Some of the plans were conducted offline, so no amount of close-reading would have helped you Brock.

I saw Boogie Nights last night, for the first time. And I laughed and laughed, when your name came up. Amazing.

7: No, we just keep meeting up over and over and over.
Cookout? Where?

Bars suggested last time were River Gods (somewhat small) or the MIT Stata center bar. Cookout means gifts of meat, however, which is much more exciting.

The MIT Stata bar ("R&D Pub") was suggested last time, but I've since checked and: it's closed for the summer.

River Gods is a great place, but *small*.

BG brought up the idea of a cookout, I think. And I don't think we've decided where it would be, but -- do people think that would be a good idea, on principle? It might be cheaper and have more space, you know.

I'm probably out due to a slight plan change, I am just going to be flying in on July 27th and out on the 29th. Unless someone wants to have a drink at the airport bar. The bonus is you would get to meet my fabulous son and gf. Somehow, despite my Billy Kilmer poster in his room, my cherry-picking son loves the RedSox and the Patriots.

We're driving out to New Hampshire to some place called the Lake Opechee Inn & Spa.

I'll be there from this-weekend-ish until September-ish, so my scheduling is teh flexible.

Meetup on George's Island! No, I don't care. What's fun in Boston anymore? I'm out of touch.

Aw bugger. I'm in Berlin through August 15th. Otherwise I'd volunteer to wow y'all at the cookout with my fabulous mint julep making skills.

It's also not like we have to have one meetup every six freakin months, if peoples' schedules really don't mesh well over the summer.

Next week is good. Sooner's usually better than later - nobody says we can't have another one in August. I vote for the 25th or 26th, only avoiding Tuesday because I want to try to go to Drinking Liberally.

I'd volunteer my grill for a cookout, but as I barely have an "out" to do the cooking in, it's not really a great place to gather.

Fargo may not have as many swanky nightspots as Boston, but it's a much better place for a cookout.

I'll be out of town from August 10-26, but anything outside of that should be fine with me. I've offered my backyard as a cookout location, but that would require a schlep down I-95 for most of you.

You should volunteer our mutual co-op. It's summer, who would notice an alum and a bunch of randoms grilling in the back yard.

I've been reading Robert Parker's Spencer mysteries lately (because they make good study breaks) and now consider myself an expert on all things Boston, especially what hotel bars to drink at. So I'll be happy to plan your meetup for you.

24 -- are you against the idea of a backyard cookout? If we do it before the end of July, I have a lead on a place we might meet. Let me go ask my (lurker) friend, if he's not already reading this...

I have a backyard and a grill and am red line to local bus accessible- free transfer with CharlieCard! I'd have to get permission at home first.

Well, I'll look into it. Is the consensus a non Tuesday weeknight sometime in the next couple weeks? (Our weekends are booked to the end of the summer.) The complicating factor is young children and bedtimes.

I'm comfortable with a non-Tuesday weeknight.

And SP, it's no problem if you find you can't host a bbq after all -- we can always do it another time. Just let us know, and we will start suggesting bars again.

The response was, "Well, if you trust some people from the internet meeting your kids."
I'll take that as an OK.
So, something like July 26? Time? Foods? I'll get the tiki torches.
w/d has apparently volunteered to be in charge of organizing, although I don't know why Robert Parker knows anything special about cookouts.
