Another thing about CSS: Firebird in its current version does a poor job of finding text on CSS pages. (Like mine.)

Very interesting. I notice though, that Firebird can select text just fine, but can't find it. Oy.

Putting the site together initially gave me some browser headaches, but trying to use CSS was just maddening. Now I understand why people who make web pages dislike Internet Explorer: it plays by its own rules, and they're not good rules. Unfortunately, the logs show that about 85% of the people who come to the site are using IE.

I know a CSS-only page with universally selectable and searchable text is possible, but I really want to keep the center column from becoming too wide, so that people who keep their browsers maximized don't have to read all the way across the screen. But that, as I found out, is very hard to do.

Same here. Unfortunately, old-style hard coding just works better given the vast numbers of browsers and equipment types out there.
