Re: San Francisco Saturday

Is it me, or isn't the concept of Jandek a lot more interesting than the music of Jandek? And hasn't he somewhat ruined the concept by making live appearances?

I'm sure this outs me as a n00b, but I didn't realize that he had even started making live appearances.

I thought the whole point was that he didn't make live appearances, that he was shit, and that he functioned as the limit case of "I listen to bands that don't even exist yet" hipsterism.

Who is Jandek, and why should i care about the answer?
A cup of hot wine with not a drop of allaying Jandek in't.
Follow your spirit, and, upon this charge
Cry 'God for Harry, Jandek and Saint George!
This Jandek hath a pleasant seat.
Fear no more the heat o'the Jandek
Nor the furious winter's rages.
Your heart's Jandek be with you!

And he's released several live albums, all named after the pattern "City Day of performance" (eg Glasgow Sunday, the first). You see.

I only have four albums, Glasgow Sunday, White Box Requiem, On the Way, and Manhattan Tuesday, and only listened to the first three, the lattermost being new, but I actually genuinely like the middle two, White Box Requiem especially. So there, haters.

And Charming Hostess are playing at Amnesia on Sunday:

Have you longed to hear the new Charming Hostess work-in-progress about Babylonian amulets, but felt Moscow was just too far away? Long no longer!

The Aramaic incantations and vocal acrobatics you've been craving now appear in San Francisco. This is a great date show for people whose dates are not put off by satanic sex chat and diaspora politics. The other bands also rock, so come one come all!

CHARMING HOSTESS
Sunday, November 18
Amnesia
853 Valencia
San Francisco, CA
with Fishtank Ensemble and The Painted Bird
$12-$15
Show at 8, ChoHo at 9
