Read, have you seen these books: "Civilized Shamans" by Samuel or "Himalayan Dialogue" by Mumford? Both are about the intersection between shamanism and Tibetan Buddhism, which is approximately where you seem to be.

Samuel's book, especially, is amazing. Tibetan religious practice is unbelievably complex and rich.
