AWB, I can't believe that you starting commenting after ogged got cancer. That can't be right, can it? God, I have been reading this website for so goddamn long. I am now trying to find my earliest comment, and the earliest so far is July 2005...

I started the first incarnation of ITNSII? in January 2006, and got sucked in here shortly thereafter. I had a blog before that, since November 2004, but it wasn't very good. Only a few people I know here read that one, though.

I was also surprised that AWB only started commenting after ogged was diagnosed. I started commenting in August 2005.

I don't think my tenure overlapped with silvana, unless she came back under a different name (possibly "yoyo", to judge from that thread). So that's a different era.

I remember the seriously long hiatus where there were no posts from either ogged or Labs. We were all in withdrawal. Then when ogged said that he was quitting, I was deeply grateful to alameida for expanding the number of posters, because I would have been really upset if this place had totally disappeared.

Alameida is the power behind the throne. Whenever there's a crisis she steps in, and once the problem is solved she returns to her Narnian undersea palace.

It is said that something unspeakable happens to anyone who views her face, so that they have to go to the spa for a complete makeover, buy all new clothes and electronics, reorganize their kitchen, and purge their IPod.

Shouldn't we or someone more serious than us be militating for Tucker Carlson to be replaced by Rachel Maddow? She's already a regular on Olbermann. She's smart, good on TV, and politically non-insane.

Tweety then would be boxed in between two people who don't respect him much, and Olbermann already has higher ratings than him. If Maddow does well in her unfavorable time slot (she should do much better than Carlson), it would make sense to move her closer to Olbermann, or at least to put someone non-creepy in Matthews' spot.

All of my personal things were in a small box that had once been used to ship miscellaneous office supplies third class; someone had placed it at my doorstep. There was no note, no writing on the box to tell me who had left it; but I was sure that Barb Boyd was behind it, hoping that this would deter me from coming into the department and thus saving her chicken-shit self from a confrontation. I was famous for never decorating my office space with much that was either personal or permanent; I lived my life ready for flight, as though I had already anticipated what had happened yesterday. So the little box held lumps of my corporeal matter, God particles of what I was for five years: an old tube of clear lipstick, a nail file, a smashed but unopened box of Junior Mints, used tickets to the Saints game from two years ago, and something that did not belong to me: a scapular with two brown strings that looked like shoelaces attached to a square piece of cloth with the red, white and blue image of the Virgin Mary. I stretched the strings out and pulled it over my head and let Mary rest between my breasts.

I think my first comment dates from about July 2007. It seems like a lifetime ago. I first perused the blog on a link from (I think) DeLong in probably 2003, went so far as to bookmark the site and then later delete the bookmark, then became a regular lurker in about Oct 2006.

More recently, after long and solemn reflection, I added the domain to my "trusted sites" list.

I think I'm from 2003? It was the thread where evil Ogged posted his list of demands for any woman he'd deign to date, I remember. Me and Profgrrl showed up to tell him how sexist he was being.

I wonder if I've been hanging around here longer than Emerson, or not.

Fleur has a good friend from childhood who came out when he was in his late 30s. I suspect he came out to himself not long before that. Back when he was purportedly straight, he used to sabotage his dating chances with a long list of non-negotiable demands that were unlikely to ever be simultaneously fulfilled by the same woman. Just sayin'.

it is a beautiful dream
