Re: In Which Reading Comments Elsewhere Is Rewarded, In A Way

Chicago's facing an ugly summer. I believe there were over 30 shootings and six killed this weekend.

That kid needn't have died. If only Chicagoans could restrict their vigilantism to deploying the Bum Bot, like this guy in Atlanta, this tragedy might have been avoided.

Fuck.

And Daley's going to downplay all of this with the Olympics in his sight.

That's sad. You can imagine the surprise of the 15 year old: we're gonna rob this guy and it will be so easy!

The muggee whips out a knife and stabs a fifteen-year-old in the chest, and the people shout hooray, bravo?!? Damn.

Economy's going down the shitter. I'll be surprised if we don't see a spike in violent crime across the country.

I thought the violent criminals were already in jail. At least that's what it said in the other thread.

Hasn't there already been a noticeable increase in crime in the last few years? Or maybe something like 2004-6? I thought I read that somewhere.

Body-more and Newark are doing pretty well, murder-wise. Check out the Sun's most morbid google maps mash-up ever - it shows where the bodies have been dropped !

Did they look in the abandoned and boarded up buildings where the boards were placed using a nail gun?

I always get tough love and tragedy confused, too.

That BumBot is cool, but I'm waiting for the upgraded ED-209 version.

My robot will not scare people. It will be scared of people.

Don't be silly, TLL. The jails beds are all occupied by guys who got pulled over for a burnt out taillight and got caught with weed in the vehicle. And the cops are too busy confiscating cameras and beating up innocent bystanders to worry about trifles like armed robbery.

It's kind of funny though, that when drugs (well, weed and hash) are legal, all cops have to do are simple buys-and-busts.

I really want to read that. I once saw his father, Charles, debate a gay professor who had served in Korea about whether gays should be allowed to serve in the military. It didn't seem to me to go so well for the elder Moskos. I remember the gay prof saying something about Alexander The Great's "other steed," a fellow soldier whose name I've forgotten.

I'm just as surprised as Lamar about the existence of "gay-ass gangsters."

15: http://www.ansible.co.uk/sfx/sfx056.html

"Two notable robots emerge from Anode Enzyme's laboratory. One is the Doom Module, an agile globe on legs which is programmed to flee in terror from anything that moves (`Serve it right,' says Lord Doberman) and will continue to be Doomed for 20 years until its fuel cells are exhausted. The inventor reveals the next step: imagine ten million Doom Modules, all madly running away not only from anything that moves but from each other. His lordship is awestruck by the concept: `You're a genius.' Enzyme: `I know.'"
