Re: What did Leeloo do?

1

"LeeLoo, why did you do that?"

That's a great question to hear. Once, just once I'd like to hear the dog respond "I'm a friggin' dog for Christ's sake, OK? Sheesh. Watch the "Dog Whisperer" for ten minutes and learn something. Geeze."

Aw, my first dog used to act just like Leeloo when he was bad. Except you wouldn't even know that he'd done anything wrong; he'd feel so guilty that he'd bring the evidence to you, lay it at your feet, and cower in shame. The wrapper from the pack of hot dogs he ate, the chewed-up shoe, a face covered in butter--he'd show up while you were watching TV with this awful look on his face, submissive back, peeking at you from the corner of his eye and twitching his tail a bit. What a weird dog.

Our dog would respond with that head down, eyes averted slink to the "Who did that?" question, but only if he had actually done it. If you asked him "Who did that?" about some naughty thing another dog had done, he would charge you, barking, tail wagging, and hopping up and down, "Not me! Not me!"

We are having trouble training a dog to let go of the ball. Because as soon as he lets go, he runs away, expecting us to throw it to him again. So how can we reward him or tell him he did it right?

That second video is why I use a crate when I go out. I hate to think what Dylan would do here. I certainly wouldn't get any remorse from him, more like a "Yeah, so?" if I was lucky, or a "Fuck you" if he was feeling honest. I love him, but Welsh Terriers are not a 'want to please' breed.

Jesus christ. Stupid woman. The dog is seriously confused about whatever he thought you might have meant, once upon a time, by "Come." And if he has his tail between his legs now, I blame you, stupid woman. I hate you.

I guess she's not real selective about her customers. I know that only a real high end sex worker would say no to someone taking drugs. I'd like to think a few more would at least say no to a client who was smoking crack and driving them around in his car. But she was still playing along with a guy who was drunk, high, driving, masturbating and taking off her clothes at the same time.

Maybe she has a death wish, too. Maybe she was too afraid of him. The emotional dynamics of that car trip must have been intense.

The question is about the third wave of ska, no? The first wave was Jamaica in the 60s, the second was the UK in the 70s. Is there a distinct third wave? It seems like after that ska levels have been more or less constant.

78: The first wave of feminists were in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. They fought for basic things like the right to vote.

It is worthwhile to be pedantic on this point. When people think that feminism was invented in the 60s, they also tend to think that it is a useless movement that never accomplished anything. Rush Limbaugh was thinking that feminism started in the 60s when he announced "Women were doing just fine before feminism." It took FAIR to point out that before feminism, women couldn't vote.

89:Feminism was born in the Early Enlightenment. I can find primitive arguments for gender equality beginning around 1675. More serious and effective than, say Sappho or "Lysistrata", they actually did lead to the acceptance of educated women (philosophes) and women organizing salons. It is a little connected to the libertines, but remember women became actresses during the reign of Charles II. That is a very serious step, women in public life in a role assigned to men, and where I mark the beginning of feminism.

89: Yeah, I thought about mentioning those folks, too. But I thought there was more historical continuity with the suffrage folks. (Also, wikipedia put the first wave at the suffrage movement, and I take wikipedia to be consensus reality.) In the end, the only value to talking about waves of feminism is to get people out of thinking that it was an exclusively 60s and 70s phenomenon.
