What the fuck is that thing the caterpillar extrudes between 1:00 and 1:17? I watched that bit about three times in mystified horror, determining, to my relief, that it was not in fact its head. An exoskeletal structure of some sort? One of the other caterpillars checked it out as a possible food source---I was so prepared for cannibalism---but mercifully decided it wasn't appetizing.
Verdict: GROSS.
