It would be hilarious if this post got absolutely no comments.

Alas.

An off-topic update, not that anyone really cares:

A while ago, Apo, Stanley and heebie were very helpful in finding a relevant thread on old homes, babies and lead paint.

We did 3 months of mitigation efforts (windowsill washing, mopping) and my daughter's lead levels are now undetectable.* So thanks, Unfogged, for helping me not panic.

*Of course, being paranoid, I don't believe this good news. But at least we're not moving 3 months into a 1 year lease.

This is t3h awesome. Not the lead bit, the idea bit. I did email a few post ideas to the Oggster (PBUH) back in the day. He shocked me when he rejected one story, saying he couldn't verify it. I mean, WTF!?

14: Woo Klug!

Kai just tested with elevated, but not problematic, lead levels, but I did a bunch of demo work on lead-y eaves right outside a mostly-open window, and Kai crawled past it several times a day, so we know the source. We were also too lax about hand-washing with him. But that project is over, and crawling is just about behind us, so I expect this to be a one-time blip.

I've never seen Grand Coulee, so I just looked up pictures. Man, that's a brute force dam, just a straight concrete line across a river. I like a gravity arch dam myself.

I don't have a post for you. I don't even have one for myself. I do have an idea, though. We should be able to draft a commenter to write a post. I haven't worked out the mechanics yet, but basically there'd be a nomination, a brief period to vote up or down (the nominee could campaign), and then a deadline to submit the post.

regarding 14:

i recently helped my grandfather repaint an apartment he has (since i'm unemployed, and he's long in the tooth). i couldn't convince him the (old white lead) paint we were removing before repainting could be unsafe . it kind of made me think he's an asshole, an impression not helped by the big Reagan picture he has in his shop, or that my parents lived in one of his apartments for a year or two right after i was born. plus the reagan-medicare connection when he recently got his hip replaced. he didn't bother wearing a dust filter mask thing.

Weird California news I've just seen:

Missing US girl found 18 years on has these these great quotes:

Jaycee Dugard and her daughters, 11 and 15, were kept in a "hidden backyard within a backyard", police say. ... "She was in good health, but living in a backyard for the past 18 years does take its toll," El Dorado County Undersheriff Fred Kollar said.

I think we could get a 500-comment thread out of a debate over whether McMegan is best characterized as a jackass or a fuckwit. Comity would be reached when LB intervenes to argue in lucid, non-confrontational language that both positions have equal merit.
