Can't we just put Florida and Ohio in a room and let them work out a compromise already? This endless cycle of oneupmanship is really getting exhausting.
Is there a voter order list for every machine? Are there polling places with just one machine? I've only ever used paper ballots, but every time I've voted there's been a central check-in desk, and then several voting booths.
Not that this isn't still problematic.

Considering that Ohio GOP is starting to adopt Florida's tactic of trying to purge the voting rolls of likely Democrats, this is especially problematic. Now they don't just have to use demographic profiling -- they can generate a list of people who voted Democratic in the last election and try to purge as many as they can.
Right, and there doesn't have to be proof, or evidence, that someone's already planned to do it to make the possibility intolerable. This is about capabilities, not intentions.
I'm just going to sit here and be thankful, again, that my county's compliance with HAVA is of the least-invasive, least-abusable kind. My brain just can't comprehend the post itself. Just... can't...
So on the rankings of Orwellian legislation titles, does HAVA sit above or below the Healthy Forests Restoration Act?

Well, it seems like a potential concern, but since the electronic voting machines also randomly drop or misrecord votes, the two lists will probably get out of register and the problem is solved. Two wrongs do make a right!

Is that really true? I'm from OH, and I know they are a trusting lot, but gee! In OH I always had the feeling that God decided things anyway, not people, so it wasn't really important that things be secret... etc.

Re: is it real. I followed the link to Scheier, and it was depressingly full of the troubles of security vs transparency. As in, you need to prove that you have x votes cast and also x legitimate voters. Seems like scrambling up the list of voters would be the best way of making sure no one can tell which voter cast which vote. On that site some people claimed that Republicans will try to get rid of voters who are likely to vote Democrat (And a group of people who took my brother's voter registration card did not turn it in, and it was in the news that many people's cards were not turned in who had said they were Democrats...) but anyway, it is currently very easy to deter democrats from voting. You just make the polling places hard to find in the poorest neighborhoods. My sister was a poll site volunteer, and they has almost 100% (And almost 100% Democrat) turn out around the housing projects, despite the fact that the polling places had been switched around in a ridiculous manner right before the (last presidential) election.
RE: Who to blame.
Blame all the liberals who leave Southern OH because they feel out of place. (Me.) I think we should stay registered in OH, perhaps. But I thought it irresponsible not to vote in local elections. But then again, NYC is doing fine. What do you think???
And blame the Democrats for not finding a way to get the MORAL Vote. Southern OH is a Christian Democrat kind of place. They are Pro Education, Pro Healthcare, Pro welfare, and Pro Life. We could win them on 3 out of 4!
They also don't pay enough attention to realize that the Republicans are really against healthcare, education & etc. I tried to explain the voucher system to my grandma, and she said "The republicans would never do that." (Because of the public money going to religious schools which she thought was wrong, even though we were 3 generations of Catholic school educated.)
