Re: Guest Post - Donkeys

I refuse to believe out of all of those animals, the donkey was the only one on drugs. The bear with no pants, slow movements, and constant food craving?

The donkey clearly wasn't on enough drugs.

Also sorry to photo bomb the FP but I love that statue and it's singularly appropriate.

Given all the weird nativism that's cropped up over horse slaughter in the US (throwing a wrench even in ecological cullings), I'm glad the Chinese medicine industry doesn't enter into it.

That is a great statue, and I'm usually not one who goes for public art.

It's not new, but it's still current as an issue. They've banned the slaughter itself, and want to do the same for export-for-slaughter. I first became aware of it in the Bush years - it's the wild horses that proliferate without predators on public land. (And eat the grass that cattle ranchers want to get the benefit of...)

"Removing slaughter as a humane option will leave many horses with nowhere to go and no one to care for them," the association says on its website. "There will likely be an acute rise in abuse, neglect, and abandonments with corresponding negative impacts on horse welfare."
Just like with people.

On Eeyore's birthday do people exchange empty honey jars with popped balloons?

Those books were such shit. That we give them to kids makes sense because America has a long history of dumping on youth.

To the OP: How hard can it be to sell a different hide and say it's from a donkey?

22. I loved the Pooh books when I was a kid, but eventually realized every character in them had serious mental health issues. That did not prevent me from recommending them to my kids. It's like Harry Potter: utter garbage from one point of view, life-changing experience from another. Not unlike "the Golden Age of science fiction is twelve."

28. Chinese folk medicine sellers have high standards! No fake donkey skin for them. No rubber bats.

In other news, here in MA a bunch of Biogen employees have gotten the virus, which is in some way very ironic. There are also people showing up who had been to PAX East and are now infected. Thousands of people attend that. I also notice they are cancelling SXSW.

The best part of the Biogen imbroglio is the email from Biogen to its employees stating that Mass General has informed Biogen that further disruption of the Mass General emergency room by Biogen Execs seeking Coronavirus tests will result in said Execs being thrown out of Mass General by Mass General security.

Re: Pooh, my mom loved A. A. Milne, particularly "Now We Are Six." My bedroom had Winnie the Pooh wallpaper, and my first word, even before "Dad" was "Pooh." I am 100% brainwashed on this topic.

At Eeyore's, mostly people did a lot of drugs and were in drum circles. I used to go because it was kind of a fun ridiculous scene and drum circles didn't annoy me as much as they do now. I attempted to do mushrooms one year but I think some kid sold us shiitakes or something, as it had no effect.

I just saw a photo of myself circa 2005, when I dressed up as a Catholic schoolgirl for Halloween. I had on a longish baggy plaid pleated skirt, baggy collared shirt, old zip up hoodie, tennis shoes, and I made myself some fake braces/headgear to wear. I still love that costume.
