Re: Cheer up, LB

That actually reads a lot like the "duck season/rabbit season debate." It's a good thing not all cartoon ducks sound the same.

I have it on good authority that rugby players will, after a game, still sweaty and gungy, pour a beer down their backs, through their ass-cracks, and off their balls, into the waiting mouth of some other rugby player.

Did anybody else notice that Standpipe made the New York Times?:

"Note that the lid handles on Le Creuset pots can only withstand temperatures up to 400 degrees. So avoid using them, or remove the handle first."

and

". . . classic loaves in loaf pans: if you can imagine it, and stay roughly within the pattern, it will work. "

3: Ms Althouse is not a crone, old or otherwise. Please do not denigrate the honourable wise women of the tribe by associating us with Ann Althouse. [Whose name, by the way, can be rearranged to "LOATHE ANN US".]

Just remember that the Old Wives of those eponymous tales got that way by outliving their detractors enemies. We do not always do so unaided. Beware the Revenge of the Crones.

3: A fascinating NYRB review (on a book about the witch craze in Baroque Germany, not about Althouse) suggests otherwise.

Witches can be seen as fitting into the larger category of "crones," whose social position and influence were below that of every other demographic group.

Regrettably, this can't really be said to apply to Althouse. Splitting hairs, perhaps, but let's maintain our standards, people.

Estate tax law is best read aloud after inhaling helium.

Read to oneself, the Generation Skipping Transfer Tax and related trust law is best read after drinking serious quantities of alcohol, after which "Crummey powers" just sounds like the description of a mediocre superhero.

37: I don't trust your judgement given that you can't see through the facade of Caroline Hoxby's awesomely fabulous statistical approaches to see the truly crumby data that too often lies beneath.

38 and thereafter, I just had a memory of stoned college room mates reading out loud about the Mannerists use of warmer tones in their painting from Jansen's History of Art - All of it sounds funnier if your stoned, or so I'm told.
