Re: Your civic duty

This is all about how Unfogged wasn't nominated, isn't it?

You betcha!

No, I kid. This is all about how I failed con law 1.

How was Unfogged not nominated for Best Community or whatnot? By the very power of our obsession, we could've lost handily to Kos and his Daily minions!

On another note, I oppose on principle the attribution of deconstructive method to the likes of Althouse. She is no thinker of things subtle and sublime, but merely another run-of-the-mill hypocrite.

Of course, since it's Althouse's notoriety that is driving TMV's votes, she can still claim a moral victory.

I'm not sure that anything other than ludicrous risibility was being attributed to Althouse.

Her ability to claim victories is, I admit, quite impressive.

This gets better and better. In response to a commenter who wonders how Althouse could be losing to a blog with less traffic, she writes,

Goesh: What you need to know is that numerous bloggers who hate me have posted telling people to go vote for TMV. Before that happened I was way ahead.

It was that damn campaigning, which she would never stoop to.

Applying deconstructive reading to Althouse reveals profound and unconcious existential despair, pretty much every single time, and is thus to be avoided.

Althouse's sense of what invalidates (other blogs campaigning for TMV) and what doesn't (her own daily exhortations, her commenters voting from multiple computers) is fun, but the real treat in that line Ogged quotes is "hate." Who hates her? I'm pretty sure we just think she's ridiculous.

Wow, read on. Apparently it's not possible that like eight blogs linking to that poll could produce a swing of 2000 votes. Must be some kind of electronic treachery. The script was sent in code via Padilla's twitching.

Even if she's just joking, she's doing so with such a spectacular lack of, let's say, sprezzaturaUngezwungenheit that she deserves to be mocked anyway.

Yeah, Pogo, failing to understand blog traffic. Pogo, totally convinced. Pogo, dismissive of all dissent, and trying to be funny. I'm not saying that Pogo is Ann Althouse, of course.

Do I get any moral credit around here for the fact that I haven't bothered to post on my blog, let alone beg for votes, since I got nominated for best liberal whatever it is?

This comment is not a plea for votes. It's a plea for praise.

It's not what she deserves that I'm curious about. It's the state of her soul.

Also, I'm pretty sure Pogo is misremembering the numbers.

22: Excellent, thank you. There are better candidates on the list, I'm sure.

Now, if it were a vote for best liberal blogger, that'd be another thing. Also, why don't they have a "best feminist blog" candidate?

But think about it. Althouse is up for "best centrist blog". Pogo is a member of the extreme middle. It all adds up.

It would be even more sweet because Pogo's own blog features a recent slam against sock puppetry. But also much more unlikely.

I just now took advantage of the "multiple computer" loophole.

This whole award system seems to be pretty obviously set up by conservatives. In the "best blog" category, I feel like there was a definite tokenism going on with the liberal blogs that were included. (Not that something like Atrios or TPM is, finally, "good.")

jesus, I just went over there and looked at all of the ballots.

I conclude that either
1) I live a very sheltered life over here in liberal blog-land, and so have a distorted view of the prominence of TPM, TPMCafe, ObWi, Atrios, Drum, Crooked Timber, Greenwald, Digby, Yglesias, Ezra K, Billmon, DeLong, TAPPED, and so on; or

2) those ballots are skewed *way* to the right.

In best blogospheric tradition, I shall opt to believe 2.

These 'Weblog Awards' are being put on by one of the few remaining Powerline-level Bush-worshipper blogs. Hence, to them, Althouse is a centrist.

Ann is at a conference today.

Yeah, I am here with Jonah Goldberg and a bunch of other conservatives... talking about conservatism. If you've ever really wanted proof that your humble blogger is not particularly conservative, you should see me in this context!

What a strange and magical universe, where being a speaker at a conference for conservatives makes you more of a centrist! "I'm in Cuba at a rally for Castro... if you ever wanted proof that I'm not a Communist, you should see me in this context!"
